Algonquin College welcomes CAE as newest Nìgàn partner to advance student access and community engagement

Ottawa, ON (Monday, June 22, 2026) – This National Indigenous History Month, Algonquin College is proud to announce that CAE is the newest partner of the recently rebranded Nìgàn initiative (formerly known as DARE6). Through this collaboration, CAE will financially support student success, strengthen community partnerships, and contribute to ongoing efforts toward Truth and Reconciliation in our region and beyond.

First established in 2020 as DARE6, Nìgàn is a collaboration that brings together Algonquin College and community partners to build meaningful relationships grounded in learning, respect, and shared responsibility. Partners are invited to become part of the college community and experience relationship building, working in circle, and learning about Indigenization and reconciliation. Nìgàn also facilitates experiences that can help partners shape or create change within their own organizations.

Kidandagàdji (Congratulations): Algonquin College Prepares to Celebrate 2026 Convocation

OTTAWA (June 22, 2026) — From June 23-26 the Canadian Tire Centre will be filled with celebration, excitement, and pride as more than 12,000 eligible Algonquin College graduates take part in 2026 Convocation ceremonies.

“As we celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2026, we also recognize the resilience, determination, and commitment to learning that have brought them to this milestone,” said Claude Brulé, President and CEO, Algonquin College. “Our graduates leave Algonquin with the skills, knowledge and experiences needed to make meaningful contributions in their communities, workplaces, and professions. Algonquin College expands support for Indigenous women thanks to CFUW-Ottawa’s gift in memory of Savanna Pikuyak

Ottawa, ON (June 11, 2026) – Algonquin College is pleased to announce that CFUW-Ottawa has donated $25,000 to establish a new bursary in memory of Savanna Pikuyak, a young Inuk woman and Algonquin College student whose tragic death in 2022 deeply affected our community.

The CFUW-Ottawa Savanna Pikuyak Memorial Bursary awards $5,000 each year to an Indigenous student who identifies as a woman and is enrolled in Practical Nursing, Pre-Health Sciences, or the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Honours). The bursary’s main goal is to financially support Indigenous students so they can overcome financial barriers and find safe housing in Ottawa. First preference will be given to students who, like Savanna, come from northern communities in Canada.

Algonquin College Receives Top Ranking for Animation Program

OTTAWA, ON (June 9, 2026) – Algonquin College’s Animation program has once again been recognized among the best in the country, earning the top ranking in Ontario and fifth place nationally in Animation Career Review’s 2026 rankings of Canada’s leading, non-degree animation training programs.

The annual rankings evaluate professional animation programs across Canada using criteria such as academic reputation, graduate employment outcomes, program depth, graduation rates and industry value.

Honouring a lifetime of service in health care

At this year’s Algonquin College convocation, Leah Levesque will walk across the stage to receive an honorary degree, a moment that reflectsHeadshot and text of honorary degree recipient Leah Levesque a career spent shaping the health care system many graduates are about to enter. Over decades, she has led teams, built partnerships, innovated and created opportunities for others. The recognition is fitting, not just for what she has accomplished, but how she has achieved it: with a steady focus on people and doing the right thing.

Levesque began her career as a registered nurse and expanded her education over time, earning a diploma from Fleming College, a nursing degree from the University of Ottawa and a Master of Health Administration from the University of Toronto. A career built on learning: General Jennie Carignan’s path to leadership

General Jennie Carignan will be honoured by Algonquin College this June with an honorary degree that recognizes a lifetime of service andGen. Jennie Carignan leadership. Her work has taken her from early engineering studies to the highest military position in the country, and the recognition arrives at a moment when her influence is felt across the Canadian Armed Forces and beyond.

As Chief of the Defence Staff, General Carignan is responsible for a vast and complex organization. Alongside the Deputy Minister of National Defence, she leads a defence staff of more than 120,000 people in uniform and in civilian roles, guiding operations at home and abroad. Despite the scale of the job, she often describes her role in straightforward terms. Her task, she said, is to provide clear military advice and help the government understand the choices in front of it. Algonquin College launches Nìgàn initiative to deepen Indigenous partnerships and expand DARE6 legacy

June 1, 2026 Ottawa, Ont. — On June 1, as Algonquin College begins its acknowledgement of National Indigenous Peoples Month, Algonquin College President and CEO Claude Brulé launched Nìgàn, a new Indigenous partnership initiative. This program expands the collaborative framework established through the College’s earlier DARE6 program, strengthening relationships between the College, community organizations and business partners through learning, respect, and shared responsibility.

Nìgàn, which means “to lead” in Anishinàbemowin, brings select partners into authentic learning relationships with the College, creating opportunities to engage directly with Indigenous leaders, Knowledge Keepers, students, and community organizations. DARE6 was introduced in 2020 as a corporate partnership and engagement initiative grounded in Truth and Reconciliation, and the meaningful integration of Indigenous Knowledge across campus life. Launching skilled technicians into aviation careers

Aviation maintenance students with instructorAircraft Maintenance Technician Day is May 24 and is a chance to recognize the people who support the industry, and it’s also a fitting moment to highlight the students training to join them. At Algonquin College, the two-year Aircraft Maintenance Technician Ontario College Diploma provides learners a direct path into a field built on dedication and real-world impact.

The program combines classroom learning with extensive hands-on training at both the Ottawa campus and the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum. Requiring over 1828 hours of instruction, students work on aircraft systems ranging from hydraulics and fuel to engines, environmental systems, control surfaces, landing gear and structural repair. Transformative $210,000 donation launches the Indigenous Knowledge, Work and Entrepreneurship (IKWE) program to support Indigenous student success at Algonquin College

Ottawa, ON (May 20, 2026) – Algonquin College is announcing a $210,000 donation from the Josette Robertson and Joan Johnston Family Foundation to establish the Indigenous Knowledge, Work and Entrepreneurship (IKWE) program. Developed by the College’s Department of Indigenous Initiatives, IKWE will offer culturally grounded leadership, professional development and entrepreneurship opportunities for students who identify as Indigenous women.
